Stainless steel goes where it matters: the piercing needle and the lever spring, the two parts under load and touching your food. The body is impact-resistant molded plastic, keeping the whole tool light enough to lift down with one hand, held firmly in place by the suction base. Pits drop into the clear catch cup; when you're done, it lifts out and goes on the top rack of the dishwasher. Then it does olives, too.
